SURJ Marin & MCFL Poverty & Racial Justice Film & Conversation Series #2: Systems that Reinforce Poverty
Saturday, September 23, 2023. 10 am – 12pm, Online
We’ll be looking at the intentional or unintentional systems that reinforce cycles of poverty for Marin residents (especially residents of color.) Whether these systems are manifested in a criminal justice system that disproportionately impacts communities of color; financial systems that simultaneously neglect and prey upon these impacted communities; or health care systems that financially hobbles black and brown residents each year: each system serves as a links in a chain that keep Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities from competing on a level playing field. Join us for a short film and discussion with Marin County Public Defender, David Sutton and Ida Times-Green: Marin City public servant, social worker, and former president of the Sausalito/Marin City School Board.
Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Marin and MCFL are teaming up to present a series that examines the deep connections between racism and poverty that are encoded in global, national and local economies.
